Discover NavigationThe UK Mountains are an inspiring and beautiful place brimming with hidden gems and quiet spots. Finding your way to them with confidence can sometimes be the issue though. Practicing in the right environment, with an instructor beside you is the best way to learn. This course will give you the confidence and skills to get out into the hills and find your own way around.

Who is ghyll Discover Navigation for?

This is course for anyone who wants to explore the mountain environment that little bit further than
the well marked paths and to escape the hordes of other hill walkers.

DURATION: 2 - Day
What's Provided: Map section for areas being, compass.
Course Content: Planning a walk, become familiar with the map and compass, equipment,
effects of weather, dealing with emergencies.

Improvers in Navigation

Improvers NavigationThe mountains can be a hostile place but can also be the most incredible environment to explore if you have the correct skills. Few people venture off the well-beaten paths so this course will further develop any mountain and navigation skills you already have.

Your instructor will fine tune your existing skills and cover advanced navigation techniques. By the end of the course you should confident in using use your skills to be able to navigate in all
weathers and during the day or night. 

Courses between September and March will also include night navigation.

Who is the Improvers in Navigation course for?

The course builds on your existing experience. You should already have a basic understanding of
map, scales and symbols and be able to take an accurate bearing and measurement of distance.

Duration: 2 - Day
What’s Provided: Map section for areas being, compass.
Course Content: Understanding maps and their scales and symbols, route selection, compass work and how to take and use an accurate bearing, measuring distance, mountain weather forecasting, movement through steeper terrain, safety strategies and relocation skills.
