Winter skills courses are based from Aviemore on the East side of Scotland or the Fort William / Glencoe areas on the Western Coast.
This is a must course for anyone wishing to explore the mountains in winter conditions. Those attending will gain confidence in their own ability to travel more safely over snow covered mountains in future.
Previous summer mountain walking experience is required in order to understand the practical navigation sessions. Winter mountain days can be long and tiring with between 6 - 7 hours spent on the hill each day, so a good level of fitness is required.
Evenings
In the evenings we usually meet for an informal lecture to support the information given during the day. Typical topics include avalanche avoidance, cold injuries and hypothermia, emergency winter shelters or further training on winter navigation.
Our courses are either run from Aviemore on the East side of Scotland or the Fort William / Glencoe areas on the Western Coast.
These venues provide a perfect opportunity to access the snow line quickly and relatively easily allowing greater time for coaching of winter skills/an easier day. It is possible we may use the ski lifts to access the mountain. This is a small costs of which will need to be covered by the participants.
£350 minimum charge for up to 2 people
£175 for each additional person.

Given some simple avalanche awareness and avoidance tools and techniques, there is no reason why a winter mountaineer, skier, snowshoer or hill walker can't build their knowledge and skill level to plan and enjoy a safe day out in the wonderful winter mountains.
