How did your career in the outdoors start?

I discovered the outdoors at school in the cadets, and discovered I loved it, and  started working for an adventure holiday company when I was 18, learning my trade at the coalface. I picked up qualifications as I worked, and got in to climbing and biking along the way. These days I travel and work throughout the UK, loving every minute of it.

What's been your most memorable outdoor experience?

I'm incredibly lucky to have had some great outdoor experiences both for work and for fun but an amazing day that sticks in the memory took place in Morocco on a personal climbing trip with my wife Lucy (Also an Adventure Element instructor!). We trekked for hours to get in to a remote mountain face to climb a long and sinuous rock route that topped out with views across Morocco and to the high peaks of Jebel Toubkal to the North East.  It felt like we were the only people in the mountains that day. All we had to do was focus on the moment, the rock, the wilderness.  It was our last day of that particular trip, and the best of them all.

What's your one piece of "can't do without kit"?
