Event Summary
This unforgettable charity fundraising team challenge starts and finishes Cheddar, the bustling town right at the bottom of the famous Cheddar Gorge, home to many caverns and, of course, the nation's favourite cheese too!.
Starting from our ‘Event Hub’ this challenge features a challenging 30-mile road bike section which starts a real sting in the tail by ascending Cheddar Gorge! But what goes up, must come down, so after a loop out to the beautiful Chew Valley Lake, you'll have the pleasure of the long descent back through the gorge on the return journey.
It's then on to the Hike, a 9-mile circular route which goes up one side of the gorge and down the other side, a route which allow you to experience the pure beauty of this natural formation which is millions of years old.
Once you’ve conquered the hike, it's on to the paddle. Launching from Cheddar Reservoir, teams will take to the water in either 2-person sit on top kayaks, or 4-person canoes to complete site 2-mile course.
Please note: The order in which you undertake these activities may vary.
Bike
Set off on a 25 mile ride through Somerset that takes in the best of the west!
The route tackles ascents, and some rewarding descents, as you weave your way round quaint villages. Admire the views of Chew Valley Lake as you pedal your way to Bishop Sutton before heading back to the Gorge.
The highlight of the route is the ascent and descent through Cheddar Gorge - a must for any cyclist.
Hike
The 9-mile circular route gives a panoramic view of the Gorge as you ascend to the top ridge to start your hike.
Paths are all big wide bridleways with no difficulty underfoot
Paddle
Launching into Cheddar Reservoir, teams will take to the water in canoes or kayaks.
The 2-mile course will be easy to navigate, following buoys around the reservoir to complete the paddle.
No canoe or kayak experience is necessary, and we'll provide everything you need, just bring some clothes you don't mind getting wet and a sense of adventure!
